Biography

Born in Birmingham, Jennifer displayed an exceptional talent for music at an early age. She won numerous prizes at local festivals, most notably twice appearing in the final of the Worcestershire Young Musician of the Year competition. Whilst still at school, Jenny was involved in all forms of local musical activity, performing in many productions ranging from opera to pantomime.

In 2002 Jenny was awarded a coveted place at the (now Royal) Welsh College of Music and Drama. During her undergraduate studies she proved herself to be a first class student, winning almost all of the college’s prizes for both performance and academia. Reflecting this success, Jenny graduated with the highest possible honours in July 2006 and went on to complete a Masters of Music at the college, supported by a full scholarship from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

During her time in Cardiff, Jenny has made a major contribution to the cultural life of the community. She has regularly appeared as a soloist at St David’s Hall, is a member of the BBC National Chorus of Wales and has recorded the role of First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte for Radio 3 with James Gilchrist (Tamino) and Ailish Tynan (Pamina). Other recording include the recent highly acclaimed Hyperion CD of Florent Schmitt’s Salome, in which she was also a soloist. She was instrumental in securing a link between the college and local schools, thus introducing opera to children who might never otherwise encounter the genre. In 2003 Jenny took the title role in the World Premiere of Brian Irvine’s The Tailor’s Daughter for the Youth Company of the Welsh National Opera and recently received much acclaim for her performance of the title role in RWCMD’s production of Massenet’s Cendrillon (July 2007).

Jenny is currently working as a freelance singer and continues to study under Janet Price. In addition to a number of private students she also teaches singing at the prestigious Monkton Prep and Senior Schools in Bath.  Following the success of her first project as an Animateur for Welsh National Opera (City Songs, January-June 2007) she has since completed the Magic Flute Songlines project in February 2008 and will sing for the Carbon 12 Community project. In addition to singing the role of Micaela (Carmen - Bizet) in April-May, forthcoming engagements include a variety of concert performances and contracts with the Extra Chorus of Welsh National Opera, to which she has recently been accepted.
